I’ve checked back to when I posted the blog regarding increasing your water by ¼ to ½ cup daily – it’s been at least 5 weeks now.
Have you followed through?
If you have, you are up to an extra 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 cups more than you were drinking just over a month ago and making great progress. See how easy it is?
For those who haven’t been taking the ‘baby steps to success’ for a healthy lifestyle – start today. I was at a seminar a few years ago where the guest speaker said that most diseases would be helped if people would simply increase their water intake. Naturally, because it’s such a simple solution, people choose not to do it. Will you be one of those who choose not to at least try a simple solution? Or, will you be proactive?
Start today. In fact, start now. Go get yourself a glass of water. Sip it while you’re typing your next blog entry. One down … ‘x’ to go!
“Create a fabulous day!”
Sue Crutcher, Baby Steps to Success Expert,
Already? Yes. A whole week has gone by...
This week we worked on:
-
Add another ¼ to ½ cup of water to daily intake
-
Walking a little more than normal each day
-
Walking backward
-
Walking sideways
-
Calf stretch
-
The evil plank
-
Do your remember the meaning of proprioception?
-
Line drying clothes
Last week review:
-
Add ¼ to ½ cup of water to daily intake
-
Try one new fruit or vegetable
-
Attempt to eat a fruit or vegetable of each colour daily
-
Not look at your scale
-
Use a smaller plate at lunch/dinner
-
Sleep a little better
-
Clean up for one or two 15 minute segments
I trust you are adding in what you can each day. Most of these 'baby steps' require little or no extra time in your daily schedule and are very easy to incorporate. If you are able to keep them up for 6 weeks, they will become part of your 'routine'; if you keep them up for 12 weeks, you are on your way to a new 'lifestyle'.
Looking forward…
This upcoming week will feature baby steps to home and office organization.
To your ongoing success…

Today I wanted to remind everyone of what we learned over the past week, to review how much we applied and how much we simply theorized would be helpful.
Did you:
-
Add ¼ to ½ cup of water to your daily intake?
-
Try one new fruit or vegetable?
-
Attempt to eat a fruit or vegetable of each colour each day?
-
Not look at the scale as often?
-
Use a smaller plate for lunch and/or dinner?
-
Sleep a little better?
-
Clean up one or two 15 minute segments of organizational disaster?
Yes, to 4 or more:
Congratulations, you’re on your way!
Less than 4:
You either are a totally awesome person because you’re already doing everything and are past the baby steps to success
Or…
you need to do a lot of work and perhaps require itsy bitsy baby steps. Don't panic. Simply start adding in what you can from the list ... one thing at a time.
This week:
-
Work on incorporating everything we learned in the past week into this week.
-
ADD ANOTHER ¼ to ½ cup of water to your daily intake (so now you will be up to ½ to 1 cup more than the week before last). See some of my other tips regarding water at my website.
Much more in store … get ready.
HELPFUL HINT: I suggest that you keep a point-form list (or simply print out this blog and put a check mark by each item completed each day this week) of your successes. In 6 weeks, you will be able to look back and realize that you are indeed on your way to a healthier lifestyle. And, all this, while working extremely hard keeping up to Kevin Hogan’s hectic paced course. Another opportunity for a ‘celebration’ to look forward to!

The focus of my blog is changing to: HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TIPS. This will often include what are considered to be 'baby steps' but, for some people, they are major changes to a lifestyle that is all they know. Change can be scary.
As a complementary care professional and personal trainer, I've witnessed many clients' struggle to incorporate a major lifestyle change (example: radically change their diet, hire a personal trainer, put in a lot of effort toward almost unattainable goals) only to slip back to their former ways in a short timeframe. I've personally been through this process more than once so I have a lot of empathy with those who feel somehow that they are not as dedicated as someone else. It is not about dedication or stick-to-itness -- it is about setting attainable, rewardable goals that create success.
Because we, as humans, naturally prefer to be within our 'comfort zone' it is extremely difficult to make major changes. For most people, this is simply to overwhelming so they do nothing -- that's the best solution they can perceive. They worry about whether or not they can do it, whether their friends and/or family will approve, will people accept them if they change ... this is too much at an emotional level.
If we take 'little steps' on the 'roadmap to success' we will eventually attain our goal, albeit at a slower pace (the tortoise and the hare comes to mind here). This 'evolution' allows the acceptance of change by friends, family and peers giving everyone time to assimilate the ever growing you. Most importantly, the steps incorporated along the way have time to integrate and become part of who we are; the changes are acceptable within our comfort zone; we accept ourselves.
In a relatively short time we are able to look back and realize that we have adapted without pain. This gives us pleasure! Pain and pleasure are two major motivators -- by incorporating them into our plan, results are quickly attainable.
TODAY'S 'BABY STEP': Drink 1/2 cup (4oz) more water today than you did yesterday. That's it. Do not worry about how much you should drink, whether it is enough or too much (highly unlikely but possible). Just drink 1/2 cup more over the next 24 hours. Simple. Easy. Attainable.
To your success!
